Holiday & Travel Guide For the Algarve, Portugal

The Algarve makes up southern Portugal and is well known for great seafood as well as the production of other foodstuffs. This means that your holiday there will be fuelled by some fantastic food, from authentic cuisine of the local area, to many English style pubs and restaurants that are an easy choice for any family containing fussy eaters.

A good all round resort, the Algarve is a place where active life can be indulged in. There are many famous golfing courses in the area, which are best used in late Autumn to late Spring, when there is a nice heat and good playing conditions. There are 35 courses to choose from just in the Algarve, so it is easy to get over there with your clubs and enjoy many games as lazy days stretch by and you compete with your fellow golfers. Mostly along the very south of the region, you should explore all of the courses, and work your way from the western tip of the region to the eastern tip in order to make the most of every course you can. With a nice variety of food establishments and club houses mixed in amongst them, every course is a little bit different and a thoroughly relaxing holiday can be had with one of your favourite pastimes as the centrepiece.

Outdoor bowls and tennis are both sports which also have greens and courts scattered around, so you can make the most of your favourite activity in the sun, under the beautiful Portuguese skies. Watersports, with the coast being a dominant part of the region, are also an obviously popular choice for holiday goers too. Go on a coastal cruise in the Santa Bernada Pirate Ship, which goes to Lagos in the west and east to Armação de Pêra. The caves of the area can all be seen and maybe explored by people on board this trip, before a beautiful beach emerges where there will be a barbeque and a chance to snorkel out to see the wildlife. There are 3 programmes offered by the operators of this ship, so you can choose something to suit you for a lovely day out exploring the landscape and hidden treasures of the Algarve.

Zoomarine is a great choice for families and has dolphin, seal and sea lion shows as well as a fairground with amusement rides you can partake in. The Dolphin Interaction Programme is also something that can be taken advantage of here (there is free park entry if you do) and allows you to get close to the dolphins themselves and learn about them whilst being able to swim in the same waters, watched by an instructor.

Similarly, Lagos Zoo is home to the Iberian Lynx and other both regional and more exotic creatures, so you can see an array of wildlife. Young children will love petting ponies, ducks, chickens and other animals in the interactive areas of the zoo. There is plenty to do all day here, with education being a priority through a series of available activities within the grounds, which will promote learning and fun, before a great meal on site.

With many tourist attractions, as well as the usual beaches, the Algarve offers a new world to explore if you book a holiday to this area, either for the renowned sports activities or just for a nice break away from home.

Holiday & Travel Guide For Fuerteventura, Canary Islands

When you think of a hot climate, where do you think of? Mexico? Florida? Why not think more towards Africa. Fuerteventura is not even 200 kilometres from North Africa, and is the largest of the Canary Islands. Even though it is along the same latitude as both Mexico and Florida, the island of Fuerteventura is nowhere near the same, having a cooling breeze from the sea wherever you are on the island, as it is only thirty kilometres wide.

Fuerteventura’s economy is purely built around tourism and meeting the needs of the holiday maker, making it a perfect place for any holiday maker to get exactly what they want from their holiday. Two towns on the island are Corralejo and Caleta de fuste, each offering a different experience. This really is the place for the best beach holiday.

Corralejo is on the most northern tip of the island and based around the small, still existing, fishing town, which has been adapted to tend to the tourists needs. New buildings have been cleverly built intertwining with the architecture that already existed in the town, so as to not make anything look out of place, giving the town new facilities but also keeping its original charm. With a newly developed promenade which has a variety of cafés and restaurants, the biggest decision which you will have to make at night is what cuisine you would like to try. The water surrounding the town is an excellent shade of blue with sheltered beaches dotted around. There is also a regular ferry to the nearby island of Lanzarote, so you can make the most of both islands if you wish.

Purpose built Caleta de fuste, on the other hand, is much more up beat and lively than that of the sleepy town of Corralejo. This is more ‘trendy’, having a numerous amount of boutiques, cafés, bars and hotels either on or situated very close to beaches. Caleta de fuste is also known for the large number of dolphins and turtles which visit near its shore, which make it a key place for scuba diving and other water exploration to take place. The large stretch of ocean also gives way to any other water sport you may wish to try. Try sailing, diving, jet-skiing or whatever you like, this is basically the perfect beach holiday. Caleta de fuste was built on Fuerteventura around an old castle “Martello Tower” which stands proudly in the main harbour, giving the place a nice back drop as well as a bit of history, so you will not feel like you are completely caught up in a package holiday vibe if this is where you decide to stay.

Fuerteventura is also a specialist place to visit for the keen golfer. With two golf courses, one being the championship golf course of the Spanish open and the other being situated right next to it, there is plenty of opportunity to play. Don’t forget your clubs, otherwise you will miss out on the opportunity of a life time playing some of the best kept greens in the world, which you really will kick yourself for.

Holiday & Travel Guide For Florida, America

One of the most southern states on the east coast of America is Florida, a state which is connected to the main land but is still surrounded by ocean. The gulf of Mexico lies to the west and the Atlantic ocean to the east. Florida is one of the most advertised holiday destinations within the UK recently, boasting to be the home of a number of celebrities, and you can see why. Not only does Florida have brilliant theme parks and attractions for younger holiday makers but also an excellent array of activities for adults of any age. The most famous though, of course, being the range of theme parks in the region.

Some of the most popular destinations within Florida are: Jacksonville, Miami, Tampa and Orlando. Each has their own unique hook and selling points, which make them stand out from each other. Orlando has some world famous attractions for the family, which makes it a good place in Florida to plan a visit: the most famous being the Walt Disney World Resort, as well as the Universal Orlando Resort and Sea World, which are also located there. The Universal Studio resort can be visited alongside Universal Islands of Adventure on a two day pass offer, in which you can do one park per day. Check the official website of both this, and Disney World, for details of offers for these sites. Even the most active children will be able to wear themselves out visiting these theme parks, leaving the evenings free for the adults in your party to explore a bit, so a magical holiday is bound to be had by all.

If your children are not so little any more then Tampa would be the city which you should look at, having more attractions aimed towards a more mature group with Busch Gardens Tampa Bay, an African style park which is home to a number of African wildlife and some of the most notoriously known roller coasters in the world. But if the heat is all too much for you walking around Busch gardens huge 335 acre plot then just over the road, adjacent in fact, is the world famous Adventure Island. This is a water park built on a 30 acre plot of land with attractions such as: Endless Surf, Caribbean Corkscrew and the Gulf Scream. Adventure Island is promised to be a great day out and a place to cool down in the Florida heat.

For a more laid back holiday Jacksonville is the best city in Florida to visit, having the largest population out of all of the cities in the state of Florida, it is one of the best for retail therapy as it has two enclosed malls and a number of museums. This is perfect for those wanting to spend hours upon hours taking in the sites and spending in the malls picking up bargains.

In comparison to the other cities, Miami is the most suitable city for beach holidays, being a city built on the shores of four spectacular sandy beaches, making it the ultimate place to relax on with picture perfect azure seas and golden sands. As well as previous points of interest, Florida is also known for mangroves which can be explored via fan boat.
