Eco Travel – Starting Your Green Journey

Travelling green (that is, eco friendly travelling) has different facets and may mean different things to different people. You can make your own travelling experience eco friendly, however, by doing or using the following:

1. Green Transportation

Your green travel starts with how you choose to get to your destination. Carbon dioxide is one of the greenhouse gases responsible for causing undesirable climate change on the planet as a result of human activities. As a lot of carbon dioxide is released into the air by the burning of fuel through the normal transportations we take, we would therefore need to reduce our level of fuel consumption to reduce the level of these gases in the atmosphere. You can play your own part too when you travel by using greener methods of transportation.

Some of the options you may have is to simply go walking. If you are only going on a short break within your city or your destination is not that far, you may just walk to it. Alternatively you can use a bicycle or even row a boat (that is if your final destination is reachable by water), to get to where you are going. These are some of the best eco friendly ways of moving around, at least for short distances.

Another option is to use public transportation instead of driving your own automobile. This has the advantage of reducing the number of vehicles on the road, thereby reducing energy consumption and carbon emissions.

2. Eco Tourism

Eco tourism allows you to understand the consequence of human activities on the environment and to appreciate the need to preserve natural settings while exploring nature. Through eco friendly travel you will experience travel with the intention of contributing and participating in the local communities of your destination, helping to conserve and sustain their environment, learning/appreciating their culture and getting hands-on experience on being green. Eco tourism is not just nature tourism, it is responsible tourism that involves leaving/preserving the environmental settings/resources of your destination as they are, for others to use and enjoy too. To get a true eco tourism experience you will need to pick the right travel company and ask lots of question to ensure you get a true eco tourism excursion. You may want to delve deeper into eco tourism as another type of green travel.

Some of the world’s greatest eco tour destinations include:

  • Kerala, India – Known as ‘God’s Own Country’ and one of the most sought-after destinations in Asia, boasting some of the richest biodiversity on the planet.
  • Loango National Park, Gabon – A mostly unspoiled area of Africa, and home to free roaming large mammals like elephants, gorillas, hippopotamus and forest buffalo.
  • Costa Rica – Costa Rica is one of the world’s most sought-after eco-travel destinations, with hundreds of companies that specialize in providing sustainable services.
  • Fjords Of Norway – Norway is a leader in environmental policy and takes extreme care to protect and preserve its unique and pristine coastline and towering fjords.
  • Madidi National Park In Bolivia – Bolivia’s diverse landscape offers a variety of different ecosystems to explore, from the Altiplano – a high mountain plateau where Andean civilization first flourished – to dense Amazonian rainforests like the jungles of Madidi National Park.

3. Eco Retreats

Where you choose to stay while traveling can be green too. In an effort to encourage others to be eco friendly, you may want to patronize eco retreats; these are lodging establishments employing eco friendly practices. There are several green/eco retreats you can choose to stay at, yet, there are varying degrees of being green amongst them, however. Some of the kinds of things you should expect to see or get from eco retreat facilities are organic foods, use of renewable electricity like solar power, chemical-free pools, innovative eco flooring and furniture, green waste disposal like composting etc. Some of them may even provide you with bicycles to move around or low-energy car pools saving on energy and lowering carbon emissions.

All of these are possible ways you can go green on your travels not have to spend more on your travels to use them.

The European Stag

Stag parties have always been a symbol of leaving bachelorhood and entering married life. In past years, this included bachelors getting together in a bar and ending the evening at a local strip club. This celebration ritual soon became dull in the minds of the party-goers. One night events began to quickly evolve into weekend getaways relative to mini-holidays. Groups travel to destinations around the world, taking part in a variety of daytime and evening activities.

The European continent has become a favorite destination for stag weekends. People find this destination relaxing and exotic. This short vacation may seem far away, but is easily reachable and has a much different feel from Britain. According to the group’s interests, there are many destinations to enjoy. Warsaw, Prague, Barcelona, Ireland and Tallinn all offer exciting weekend ideas that everyone in your group will enjoy. Each specializes in their tantalizing foods, original ales, folklore, and tourist attractions. A variety of night spots are offered that never seem to close.

When planning your stag weekend, do not become frustrated attempting to fill every minute of an enjoyable trip. Hassles of booking flights with transfers and finding hotel rooms in close proximity to places of interest are difficult. There are a number of travel businesses in Europe that can take away the aggravation. Simply tell them what ideas your group may have for an unforgettable weekend and let them do the rest. They will customize a mini-holiday according to the group’s interests and assure an enjoyable time for all.

Theme trips are increasing in popularity for stag weekends. Itineraries may include city tours, sports packages, golf, paintball, go-karting, and white water rafting. Restaurants according to taste requests are reserved for the party and may include entertainment. The nightlife is active nonstop in Europe and you can request a guide to come along and insure you get the most out of each scene. Accommodations will be close to all planned activities with comfort in mind and rooms for the entire group. Flights are arranged with shuttle service to any of your chosen destinations. Buy gold

When asked to be your friend’s best man, it does not have to become a stressful situation; other than being present with the wedding party and giving a speech at the reception, your job is to plan a weekend for the stag. It is your job to insure the groom-to-be gets an incredible time out with his friends for that last weekend of bachelor life. Customize the event with everyone’s interests at heart and make it a memorable time for everyone.

Common Items to Avoid Bringing When You Are Traveling

Whenever we hear that there is an opportunity to travel to a new destination or a vacation, we get excited so much that we carry too much luggage. This is understandable. However, do you know you could be arrested?

Many banned items are common to a number of countries. Therefore, you should go through a list of banned items to compare from country to country. They mostly fall under security threats.

Many things that get people into trouble are those that can be used as assault weapons. Even if it is just for self-defense, avoid the stuff.

Things like toy guns, water pistols and other household essentials like knives and razor blades are prohibited. Besides, it is not as if you cannot buy these at your destination, if you really need them during your vacation.

There is stuff you cannot be allowed to carry as hand luggage in the airport. These include lighter fluid and things like golf clubs and baseball bats. These are totally forbidden.

Items like liquid gel, shampoo and perfumes may be carried on the plane but you have to pack them in clear food bags before having them packed in a backpack. They however have to be in small amounts.

You should not pack fruits in a hidden manner or by using gift-wrap. You can carry fruits like coffee berry and pineapple, but other fruits are normally forbidden in some countries. The rules are even tougher where wrapped fruits are concerned.

You should be more careful when you are connecting flights. There are those flights that will allow certain things on-board. The problem is that you will have trouble if the connecting flight disallows what you were allowed in the first plane. Check through a list to confirm these.

Tips For Safe Travel

In order to enjoy a nice vacation away from home; you want to maintain safety. There is no need to walk around scared; but you certainly need to use extra precautions when you are out and about in a city that you don’t know very well.

It is important when travelling that you don’t let the good times roll to the extent of lessening your personal safety. It is completely possible to stay safe AND have a good time. This article will address how to stay safe when travelling away from home. Women especially, need to use precautions that men may not need to use; and with so many women taking “girls’ trips”, the timing couldn’t be better for learning some self defense and safety tactics.

Any self defense tactics that make you less of a target are good self defense tactics. This could be just the fact that you use more awareness as you enter and leave your hotel; or that you don’t invite people you meet, even in the hotel lobby or bar, to your room for any reason. Self defense is not only about actual fighting techniques (although it wouldn’t hurt to take a self defense course); it is also about using your wits to outsmart criminals who may target travelers.

When you make your travel arrangements, plan to arrive during daylight hours. This way you are not walking through parking lots and hotel lobbies at night. This is especially important for solo travelers and women. Any nice city can inherently seem more frightening at night; and the truth is there is more opportunity and higher instances of crime occurring in the nighttime hours.

Inside of your hotel, there are several precautions you can take to stay safer and feel more comfortable. Many people recommend not staying on the first floor; and also grabbing a room closer to the elevator. This way you are not walking down long hallways. When you check in, do not mark the Ms./Mr./Mrs. Box; just leave it blank. Also, avoid using room service if possible. Using some sort of delivery service puts you in the position of having to open the door to a stranger, which is never a good idea.

When you are inside of your hotel room, keeping the door locked with every possible lock keeps danger out. This may sound over the top to some; but the saying “better safe than sorry” certainly applies when you’re staying in a hotel in a city away from home. If your hotel door does not have two locks, you can use the old chair trick; propping the back of the chair under the door handle. Some people who travel a lot take along their own triangle door stoppers in case their room needs extra locking power.

One of the best self defense tactics for travelers is to NOT look like travelers. This is especially important in places that are huge tourist traps. Where there are tourists, there is crime. Tourists make great targets because it is clear they don’t know where they are and they are therefore distracted. Map out your sightseeing before you leave your hotel room; this way you won’t be walking around with a map in your hand and your eyes distracted.
