What are Working Holiday Japan Programs?

You may have heard of people going on a working holiday Japan trip. By all appearances, such an experience promises a lot of fun and excitement. Before you consider jumping on the opportunity though, there are a couple of things you need to know.
What is this program?
A number of locations across the globe let tourists work while on vacation. The program specifically offered by Japan is the result of special agreements formed between Japan and other countries. Joining Australia are New Zealand, UK, Germany, Hong Kong, Taiwan, France, Canada, South Korea and France. New countries that joined in are Denmark and Ireland. If you live in any of these locations and hold citizenship, you will be allowed to apply for working holiday visas. In turn, Japanese tourists are accorded similar benefits when they apply for special passes to these locations.
The term suggests that the option is only for individuals who are intent on first having a vacation. In short, visitors should primarily want to visit Japan for its attractions and not for employment opportunities. Getting a job is only a bonus. Tourists can only get jobs in unregulated areas and can only stay employed for as long as their visas are valid. This is usually about six months with an option for another six months extension. For citizens of Australia, they can request for a longer extension period that can stretch their stay to eighteen months.
Who can submit applications?
Other than the requirement to be a citizen of a specific country, applicants for working holiday visas also need to comply with other requirements. They should at least be eighteen years old but no more than thirty years old. Their planned visit should also be their first and upon application they need to present a valid passport.
There are also specifications when it comes to financial conditions. All visitors should be able to provide proof that they can support themselves in Japan even if they aren’t able to get jobs. You should at least have $2,000 as a vacation fund. Other than this, there is a requirement to present a vacation schedule and proof that a return flight has been booked or planned at the conclusion of the trip.
What costs are to be expected?
An initial six pounds will be charged to UK applicants. For other applicants however, visa applications are free. In all territories, all visitors need to shoulder their plane tickets. That would mean preparing roughly $3,000. You may however be able to get cheap deals that will cost you below $2,000.
The living expenses give a little more cause for worry. You can expect to spend a little over 100,000 yen every month for food, transportation and accommodation. If, however, you plan to travel from December to April, you may be able to bag a resort position in a tourist hotspot like Nagano. In winter resorts, food and accommodations are free so you can expect to save a lot of cash in these places.
A working holiday in Japan is truly an experience to remember because it allows tourists to enjoy the many attractions of the country while maintaining jobs in Japan. If you qualify as an applicant, you should take the first chance you’ve got to apply for the program.
